Tate Rosner McRae was born on July 1, 2003, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, to Todd McRae, a lawyer in the oil and gas industry, and Tanja Rosner, a German-born dance instructor. She grew up alongside her older brother, Tucker McRae, who is an ice hockey player.
At the age of two, her family relocated to Muscat, Oman, because of her father’s work, where she attended The American International School Muscat.
After returning to Calgary at age eight, she trained intensively at YYC Dance Project, owned by her mother, and at the School of Alberta Ballet. She later graduated from Western Canada High School through an online program in 2021.
