Scott Speedman was born on September 1, 1975, in Hammersmith, London, England, to Roy Speedman, a department store buyer, and Mary Speedman, a primary school teacher and former champion runner. He is of Scottish ancestry.
He grew up with his sister, Tracey Speedman, who passed away in 2016 after battling cancer. At the age of four, he moved with his family to Toronto, Canada, where he attended Earl Haig Secondary School.
An accomplished competitive swimmer during his youth, he competed with the Canadian Junior National Swim Team before a neck injury ended his Olympic ambitions.

Scott Speedman began his acting career in the mid-1990s after unsuccessfully auditioning for the role of Robin in Batman Forever.

His breakthrough in film came when he starred as Michael Corvin alongside Kate Beckinsale in Underworld (2003), a role he reprised in Underworld: Evolution.
